The Sheffield International Summer School is for designed for inbound students not currently registered on full degree programmes at the University of Sheffield. Experience studying in the UK with our short-term, two week programme designed for international students.

Academic requirements

Students must be registered at another university and be achieving an equivalent of UK 2:2 (50%) or US GPA 2.7. First year students who do not yet have grades should provide a transcript confirming the modules they're enrolled on and an academic reference.

All students will need to provide an up to date transcript as part of the application.

English Language requirements

Students not from a majority English speaking country must have an equivalent of 6.5 IELTS (minimum 6.0 in each component) to take part in the summer school. They must provide a document from our list of accepted qualifications.

Students from majority English speaking countries do not need to provide an official English language qualification but must upload their most recent university transcript to confirm they are studying in English. 

In addition to the list above, we can also accept the College English Test 6 with a score of 425 for students coming from Chinese universities providing it was taken within 2 years of applying.

Students from exchange partner universities can get confirmation from their home universities of their English language level.

Fees

All fees include tuition, accommodation and a package of social events. 

Early bird fees (applications by 31 March 2025):

  • Partners: £1,895 (including early bird and partner discount worth £300) - must be from a university with a written partnership agreement with the University of Sheffield.
  • All others: £2,045 (including early bird discount worth £150)

Standard fees (applications from 1 April - 1 May 2025):

  • Partners: £2,045 (including partner discount worth £150) - must be from a university with a written partnership agreement with the University of Sheffield.
  • All others: £2,195 

A non-refundable deposit of £400 is payable by 15 May 2025 to secure each place on the Summer School.

Non-partner universities interested in sending a cohort of more than 5 students should email summer@sheffield.ac.uk to discuss possible discounts.

We recommend that you do not book travel or other arrangements until we confirm receipt of your deposit.

Students from partner universities:

If you are coming from a partner university and would like the partner discount, you will need to be nominated by your university via Mobility Online. Once you are nominated you will be invited to apply. 

Entering the UK as a visitor

Most students entering the UK for less than six months can enter using a Visitor Visa (as opposed to a Student Visa), if you're a non-visa national, you don't need a Visitor visa before traveling but may need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) View our guidance and information on visitor and short term visas
